Celebrating Dokubo, A Core Defender Of The Niger Delta Struggle For Emancipation

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide has celebrated its former highly revered President, Alhaji Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, the pyramid of Niger Delta struggle for liberation.

It was Soren Kiekegaard, a Danish theologian, poet and philosopher that said “Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.’ It is on such premise that the 9th National Executive Council (NEC) is on behalf of the entire Ijaw Youths Worldwide celebrating our leader and former President of Council on his 60th birth anniversary considering his sacrifices in the struggle for resource control and self determination.

To us as a council, it gives us great joy to celebrate our leader on his birth anniversary with particular regard to where we are coming from as a people, leader Alhaji Asari-Dokubo has no doubt written his name in the golden book of the Niger Delta struggle and the liberation of the Ijaw people in the Nigerian State. The history of IYC and our struggle for emancipation cannot be complete without the mention of Alhaji Asari-Dokubo.

As you celebrate your birth anniversary today, the IYC is not only celebrating you but we are rather using this medium to reminisce on your sacrifices for Ijaw nation and the positive impacts you have made in this unending journey of our liberation. The assurance is that your sacrifices and that of others who toiled and laboured for Council and Ijaw nation will never go in vain.

Our dear leader, we are not only proud of you but we want to reiterate that 60 years looks good on you. Till date, you are still fighting for the Ijaw people and the entire Niger Delta region. Nothing gladden our hearts more than seeing you strong, vibrant and in good health.

It is our call this day to all sons and daughters of Ijaw nation that we must do all we can in celebrating and honouring our leaders while they are alive. Dokubo is not just an hero but a living legend whose name will be mentioned alongside Late Jasper Adaka Boro and others in the struggle for resource control and self determination.

However, we will continue to owe you in high esteem, you have continued to baffle everyone as the Alhaji Asari-Dokubo of yesterday is still the same today, till date, you are even more committed for the emancipation of your people, you have spent several decades in this tasking and dangerous mission to free our people and region from the shackles of deprivation, negligence and oppression on the part of the Government.

What more can we say than to pray to the Lord Almighty to grant you long life and prosperity. We wish you sound health and may the Lord Almighty open more doors for you in Jesus wonderful name I have prayed amen.

Signed
Amb. Binebai Yerin Princewill
