Ine festival turns sour as luxurious bus crushes boy to death in Delta

There was palpable tension recently in Onicha Ugbo community, Aniocha North local government area of Delta state following the killing of a young man by a luxurious bus while the town was celebrating her yearly Ine festival

The Liberator Newspaper can authoritatively report that the deceased identified as Best Ojika, indigene of the community was among the over ten thousand persons who had gathered from various places to partake in the Ine festival when he met his tragic death.

According to eye witness, the deceased, in company of others mounted road block on the federal high way that passed through the town demanding for money from motorists.

The luxurious bus which was coming from the northern part of the country en route Onitsha in Anambra State was said to have arrived Onicha Ugbo town at about 2 pm when the festival was going on.

In a bid to stop the luxurious bus, the deceased was hit and dragged on the ground by the bus up to a distance of a pole before leaving him on the ground badly injured.

The luxurious bus had barely left when reporters arrived the scene of the incident where the deceased lay on the ground in pool of blood, he was rushed to the hospital but was said to have been confirmed dead by doctor on duty immediately after arriving the hospital

Some motorcycle riders and other persons who were at the scene of the incident however pursued the bus when he refused to stopped.

Eye witness said that the bus driver resisted all attempts to make him stop until his pursuers got to a checking point closed to Issele Uku and reported the matter to them .

The police men were said to have swung into action immediately and chased the luxurious bus until they over ran it, he was said to have quickly jumped down and ran into a nearby bush but was finally apprehended inside the bush by the police men.

A police source confirmed to The Liberator Newspaper that the driver has been detained at the Issele Uku divisional headquarters of the Nigerian police.

All effort to reach the DPO to confirm the incident were unsuccessful as his phone number kept saying not reachable.

Meanwhile, as at the time of filling this report, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the St Theresa hospital Issele uku
