A source that would not want his name to be mentioned in print from the Odidi, Batan and Jones Creek axis has hinted The Liberator Newspaper that breakdown of Law and Order is imminent in the Delta State OML 42, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.
The source made this known to The Liberator Newspaper in Warri yesterday, stressing that the level of neglect meted out on host communities by Neconde Energy Company Limited and its subsidiaries is becoming alarming and calls for great concern.
The source maintained that the Federal Government of Nigeria, Delta State Government as well as other critical stakeholders in the Oil and Gas industry should immediately wade into the matter before it degenerate into something else.
In his words: “The situation in OML 42 is getting worst everyday, the FG, State and all regulating agencies of Oil and Gas industry has to intervene now before there is breakdown of Law and Order.
“Workers of OML 42 Fields from Jones creeks, Odidi, Batan, Egwa I and Egwa II are dying in silence, a situation that is worse than slavery. The silence is owed to the fact that if you agitate you will be sacked immediately without any benefits. Welfare of Workers is very poor, non payment of workers salary, No benefits of any sort, even during covid -19 where other oil and Gas companies placed their staff on special duties, OML 42 does it own haphazardly, no proper planning, Quarantine also went wrong, the worse and shameful scenario is where Oil and Gas Company rationed light.
“The list is endless or do we talk about not having PMS or A.G.O.(Diesel) to carry personnel or the frequent threats of Communities shutdown of Operations thereby putting the workers at risks.
“I want to use this medium to call on FG, State Government, Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources and all relevant agencies in the Oil and Gas Industry to investigate and review the partnership between NPDC and Neconde Energy Limited. We also want Labour Union to immediately intervene on behalf of the workforce to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
“Enough is Enough. OML 42 is sitting on a keg of Gun powder, the explosion will be massive if urgent intervention and improvement of workers condition is not met. Again community issues should be addressed permanently to avoid confrontations between agitating communities and company personnel or even military.”
