Apex Students group in Ijaw, operating  under the auspices of National Union of Izon-Ibe  Students (NUIS) Worldwide have passed a vote of no confidence on the Lagos State Government led by His Excellency, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State over the alleged attitude of the Government towards the controversial death of Master Sylvester Oromoni Jnr at the Dowen College.
The National Union of Izon-Ibe Students had while calling for justice to be served to the alleged killers of Master Sylvester Oromoni Jnr had called for the permanent closure of the Dowen College in Lagos until the killers are brought to book, stressing that the operational license of the college should be withdrawn as well.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the duo of Comr. Clarine Martins, President Nuis Worldwide and Comr. Afiyagba Sonya, Vice President, NUIS, a copy of the which was made available to The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide yesterday.

However, the revered Ijaw group had issued a 14 days ultimatum to the Lagos State Government to act, stating that anything short of this will lead to something else.

The statement read below:

IJAW STUDENTS PASS VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE ON THE LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT LED BY GOVERNOR BABAJIDE SANWO-OLU,CALLS FOR JUSTICE TO BE SERVED TO THE KILLERS OF SYLVESTER OROMONI JNR, AND CALLS FOR THE PERMANENT SHUTDOWN AND THE WITHDRAWAL OF THE OPERATIONAL LICENSE OF DOWEN COLLEGE

The leadership of the National Union of Izon-Ibe students(Worldwide) has expressed their displeasure with the manner the Lagos state government has been handling the murder case of Master Sylvester Oromoni jnr and has passed a vote of no confidence on the Lagos state government led by Governor BABAJIDE Sanwo-Olu.It is on record that Master Sylvester Oromoni jnr was murdered by his school mates from DOWEN COLLEGE  in the year 2021 and to our greatest surprise the Lagos state government has not made any tangible effort to make sure that those who have a hand in his demise are brought to book. Dowen college is owned by Dr Olumide Philips at lekki Phase 1, Lagos state.

We are certain that this is not the first time a student has been abused and bullied. It just so happens that the death of Sylvester Oromoni jnr brought these hidden misconduct to limelight. At this juncture, we have seen that Dowen College is not remorseful and is trying really hard to cover up the case. Dowen College is currently on operation.

Master Sylvester Oromoni jnr was a bona fide student of the National Union of Izon – Ibe students and also a son of the Ijaw soil. The Apex Ijaw student body has been silent over the year believing that the Lagos state government and the president Mohammadu led administration will do justice over the untimely death of our student. On this premise, we refuse to be quiet any longer on this matter.

We therefore call on the permanent closure of the school and the withdrawal of the operating license of the school. We deem the school unsafe and unfit for education. It is on this stand we call on the Ijaw National Congress(INC WORLDWIDE) , National Association Of Nigeria Students (NANS) , Ijaw Youth Council (IYC WORLDWIDE), all ijaw leaders and all presidential candidates of all political parties to support and ensure that justice is done.

Hence we are giving the Lagos state government 14 days to withdraw the operational license of the school and shut it down permanently, lest, the Lagos state government will be responsible for what ever comes next.

COMR. AFIYAGBA PEREDISABOFA SONYA (NUIS VICE PRESIDENT WORLDWIDE)
