Foreign: Counter-coup ousts military junta in Burkina Faso
A coup has been announced in the West African country of Burkina Faso.
An army captain has appeared on national television and announced that he has ousted the military leader, Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Damiba.
Captain Ibrahim Traore cited Damiba’s inability to tackcle the jihadist attacks as reason for his removal.
Damiba had himself overthrown the democratically-elected president, Roch Kabore in January.
The new junta leader has announced the indefinite closure of the country’s borders as well as suspension of all political activities.
