The 9th National Executive Council of Ijaw youth Council worldwide under the firm leadership of sir Jonathan Lokpobiri congratulates the power house of all society across the globe; the Youths on the international youth day celebration.
This year’s theme Green skills for youth towards a sustainable world, is an affirmation to the pivotal role the youths have to play in projecting a safer and greener world for the safety, survival and prosperity of the world’s population now and future.
Green skills have been acknowledged to be methods of solving society’s problems through acquired skills that support a sustainable and resource efficient society. The need for society, especially the Nigerian society to start working towards the growth and development of her youths in this direction can not be overemphasized.The need for youth empowerment and strategic leadership positioning has not only become expedient, but a necessary path to survival and growth of all developing society.
The climate and ecological crisis in the world today have taken a great toll on the ijaw people and her territories as sea level rise is eminent and erosion threatening the very existence of our ancestral homes are already rendering thousands homeless, while temporary measures like sea wall and others are needed to mitigate against the effects of climate change, retooling the youths with necessary green skills is the best preparation for the future of our people.
While days like this gives us ample opportunity to discuss myriads of challenges and solutions, we once again hail the resilience of the Nigerian youths and especially Ijaw youths that have been pushed to the wall by obnoxious government policies of robbing Peter to pay Paul, but have remained resilient.
Most importantly, we are returning to our glory days with greater optimism and unity of purpose.
Together we will move the mountain of oppression that has cast its shadows on all our lands decisively.
