IYC Charges Bayelsa Youths Against Violence Ahead Of Governorship Election

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide has charged Youths in Bayelsa State to remain peaceful as they go into the Bayelsa State Governorship election come 11th of November 2023.

For us, every life is important as Ijaw people, we must not engage in any form of violence while voting for our preferred candidates during the election. Over the years, we have lost too many Youths during campaigns and during Governorship elections, it is our call that this barbaric act must stop henceforth.

We are calling on our dear Youths of Bayelsa State to conduct themselves peacefully as they go into the election as a lost life can never be regained. We must go out and exercise our franchise without fear by casting our votes for those that we think that will develop our dear State.

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide is also calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a free, fair and credible election as council is watching keenly.

We must not allow our political interests to divide us as a people from one indivisible family, we must know that encouraging violence and killing ourselves during elections is not adding to the development of Bayelsa State. Peace is priceless.

Security agencies must also come together in ensuring that a peace accord is signed by all candidates and provision be made for heavy security in the state to curtail any perceived violence.

However, the President of council, Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr, 9th NEC officials and other critical stakeholders will ensure that a peace Committee is established with the primary aim of monitoring the election while ensuring peace throughout the election.

Signed:
Amb. Binebai Yerin Princewill
Spokesman Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide.
