Comr. Labopere Moses Okibou, chairman of Okibou community in Kou Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State has called on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to urgently appoint an Iduwini son as commissioner to represent the Ijaw Ethnic Nationality in the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC.

Comr. Okibou, a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP faithful in ward 11, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State made the call via a statement issued to newsmen in Warri yesterday, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspaper.

He had particularly charged the Governor of Delta State not to politicise the appointment of commissioners in DESOPADEC, particularly in the Ijaw axis, noting that it already has an existing principle among the oil producing kingdoms by way of rotation.

The Okibou community chairman had maintained that Kingdom to get the commissioner position should not be tied to who wields more political powers but rather do the right thing to appease the people.

Comr. Labopere had emphasized that it is clearly the turn of the Iduwini people in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State to produce the commissioner, insisting that there should be no argument about that.

According to him, all Ijaws are one, stressing that kingdoms must not fight themselves over such issues that are not permanent.

In his words: “Since we have long adopted the rotation principle, we should just allow things to go the way they are by allowing kingdoms that have not gotten such appointments to benefit, Kou as an oil producing kingdom must also be looked into in the next administration”.
